2017 Food Service Director Survey Highlights
From October 2017-December 2017 every known school in the S2AY Network Region (the counties of Chemung, Livingston, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne & Yates) was sent a Food Service Director Survey to assess farm to school interest. Out of the 166 schools (accounting for 53 districts) surveyed, 123 schools (40 districts) responded. When asked, "How can the Farm to Cafeteria Coalition help to get local produce into your school(s)" The majority of respondents stated that they need help connecting farmers with food distributors that they know and use. Only one (1) school surveyed was not interested in farm to school at this time.

What food distributors do you (or have you) worked with, that you would recommend to other schools?
We were unsure where schools were getting their local produce or what food distributors they liked to use. We asked this question "open-ended" so that we could better understand all of the small-scale "distributors" used throughout the region. The most utilized food distributors identified who can provide schools with local products are American Fruit and Vegetable, Sysco, Genecco and Maines. Because this question was open-ended, we were able to identify some other "distributors" supplying local produce to schools.
