Safe Medication Disposal

SAFE MEDICATION DISPOSAL

Many of us will require the use of a prescription medication within our lifetime, but did you know that unused and/or expired medication can be dangerous for yourself or your loved ones? The FDA warns that “while some medications may be safe for you, they are harmful for others”.

Pivital Public Health Partnership is committed to safe medication disposal methods, along with eliminating the misue of unused medications. Our mission is supported through the utilization of prescription medication drop-off locations, medication take-back events, and providing education and access to kits that can be used at home to properly dispose of unused medication, in an environmentally friendly manner.
For community members who prefer to dispose of unused medications at home, DisposeRX is available!

If you are interested in learning more about safe disposal or in obtaining DisposeRX packets, please reach out to Program Manager, Katie Basu, at Kate.basu@S2aynetwork.org

Here's a webinar on DisposeRX that you are welcome to utilize on your websites or social media pages if you're interested! The webinar is attached below. Additionally, here is a recent blog post from DisposeRX, highlighting some of the work being done in our community! A special 'Thank you' to Brandon Beuter, for sharing his story!

For community members who may have larger quantities of unused medications, or prefer to dispose outside of their homes; medication disposal bins are free, convenient, confidential, and provide a safe solution to reducing the amounts of unused medication. The disposal bins are for prescription and over the counter medications, not for the disposal of hazardous materials or needles. Please contact your local health department for information on disposing sharps or hazardous materials.
